The story first appeared on "The AOL List" -- and then in the New York Times. The New York Times area on America Online had been accessed by hackers. The hackers easily eluded AOL's security procedures, and added their own messages below the areas icons.

It's the latest in a series of hacks performed on AOL content areas, including The Hub, keyword Gamewiz, and several staff FTP sites. Last November, C|Net also reported that hac kers had vandalized AOL's "CourtTV" area, adding their own pop-up screen with cryptic messages.

AOL just can't seem to stop 'em.
