In light of the story about the Columbia graduate student who sexually tortured a woman he met "on the internet" (from his AOL account), I thought I'd check AOL's "NetGirl" area, to see her "tips on making cyber friendships and even finding true love".Unfortunately, the original NetGirl left AOL, to found "House of Psychics" on the web. They've replaced her picture with a woman in black lipstick, and added a vague non-biography. ("NetGirl is a woman of mystery...")
From the essay, "Who is NetGirl?"
"Which bring us to a central question: What are NetGirl's qualifications for answering questions about love and relationships in cyberspace? Does she have a degree in social work? Is she a licensed psychotherapist?"[No.]NetGirl is clearly an experienced woman, wise in the ways of the world. She has known love and pain...[No.]Did Timothy Leary really call NetGirl "the ultimate trip"? Did Hunter S. Thompson really awaken from a dream screaming her name?
NetGirl describes herself as "part MataHari, part Annie Hall, wired like NASA."[AOL sucks.]
